How to be a friend of your child?

Posted by admin | Raising Your Child | Friday 11 December 2009 5:43 am

How to be a friend of your child? If you want your child to be happy and perfect besides sharing his success and failure stories, make sure that you are more of a friend than just a parent. This means that you should be the first person to discuss a problem and share joy for your child and the child must not respect you because he fears you but because he admires your presence in his life. Spend quality time with your child so that he can talk freely with you.

Before you can be a good friend of your children, you need to understand some things very clearly. Never ever crack a joke on your child’s success or failure. If he has made a mistake, accept that as a human mistake and let your child know that you still love him. Make him understand the difference between the right and the wrong so that he makes less mistakes and learn from the mistakes to be a better personality, even better than you.

Do not let your child down by making promises you cannot keep or expecting too much from him. Give him a space to grow – to grow as a child, as a member of the society, and to grow as a good human being. Never appreciate his wrong deeds just to make him happy and guide him with ethics.

If you can follow these tips, your child will admire the company of the most trustworthy friend in his life – you! This was all about raising your child in the best possible manner.

How to make your child respect you?

Posted by admin | Raising Your Child | Tuesday 1 December 2009 5:05 am

How to make your child respect you?One of the most important things that can be taught to a child by a parent is respect. However, it is important to note that there is a great difference between respect and obedience. While your child might obey your instructions because he or she is afraid of you, he or she will respect you because he/she will be aware that you would always make the right decision for him/her.

The only way to teach lessons of respect to your child is by giving respect to the child first. In this sense, it is important not to show anger or abuse your children and teaching the difference between right and wrong to the child. Remember, when a child becomes aware of your actions and the reasons behind those acts, he or she is more likely to follow and respect you.

Furthermore, never show disrespect to your elders as a parent before your child. Remember, your child learns from you and if he or she sees you disrespecting or abusing your parents, the act is likely to be repeated against you.

It would be better for you to realize that you can nurture respect and ethics in your child’s mind by being honest, polite, trustworthy, fair, positive, good listener, able to admit mistakes, caring, and loving. If your child commits a mistake, stay calm and make him feel that he or she is still loved. Take every opportunity to show your inner feelings and say ‘I love you’ to the child so that the child feels wanted and loved by you. Never be shy to give a big hug or a kiss to your child. Your child may make a mistake but you need to make sure that you are never too late to get it corrected quickly and telling them not to repeat the same again.

These small yet highly effective tips would surely create a better child-parent relationship at your home.
